**Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual?**

While looking around for my first endgame book Jeremy Silman's Complete Endgame Course always comes up, but I have also read that even though Dvoretsky's is better if you put the time in. So, can a beginner start with DEM instead of Silman's if enough time and effort is put in?

Agree with Silman first but would also recommend James Howell's book Essential Chess Endings.
