There was a thread on this recently. I don't play OTB but use earplugs quite a lot for cutting out distractions. The ones I'd recommend are those from earplugs online. These are made from beeswax and mould to the shape of the outer ear.
Kaynight, if you know any earplugs that will block out the noise of a fire alarm please let me know. Earplugs tend not to block out impact noises; white noise works better.

I was wondering if anyone are using ear plugs for OTB play? I often times have trouble concentrating because all of the minor sounds in a chess hall with 50 people or more playing chess. I thought ear plugs would maybe help me out?
