If the thread is useless, let's think about this.  What constitutes a thread?  A bunch of comments!

So if the thread is useless, so are the comments in it, INCLUDING the original one!

The original comments shows a bunch of openings. It might not be immediately clear how it's useful, but that doesn't mean it's necessarily useless.
