There are no effective attacking set-ups in the London because it's awful. Please don't ever play the London System. Thanks.

Perhaps you should tell Magnus that, because he plays it

What about the Barry Attack?? It's a distant cousin to the London...

I'll look into it. Looked like a fun opening from the start but I can see where you are going.

The number of times magnus has played the london system in a classical otb game is probably in the single digits. I know magnus played the following defense before (as black):

Which is obviously really pushing the limit of sound opening play. I could tell people that the norwegian defense (as it is called in the chess.com database) is a good opening because magnus played it, but the thing is, he played it once and never again.

Please check the database for London. All the top people use it in their games, not just Magnus

Magnus, Aronian, Caruana, Giri, So, and the list goes on

Of course. But none of them would play it as their main opening. An opening you play a few times isn't really going to be an opening you would put complete faith in.

And I'm not saying that top players don't use it in their games. I'm saying it doesn't happen frequently.

No one except for MVL only plays one opening

Again, I never said that. But top players play some openings more frequently than others. The London is usually on the lower end.

Yes, Queen's Gambit and Ruy Lopez are more popular. But the London is very much in use, especially on the highest level

But not nearly as often.

2. Nf3 and 3. Bf4 is the move order which frequently occurs on the highest level

it is still heavily outclassed.

I agree. It's the second most common after Queen's Gambit and if you narrow your search to the last decade, the numbers are much closer

Really? I believe c4 is the more popular continuation after Nf3. I have nothing against the London, one of my favorite openings, in fact. But it is obvious that it doesn't do great compared to other openings at master level, yet this doesn't make the London a bad opening.

Exactly. 2. Bf4 is also commonly followed by 3. Nf3 so even claiming that the London has been played 10,000 times is false.

2. Nf3 and 3. Bf4 is classified as the London, not the Queen's Gambit
