Virtually all sports or forms of competition are intrinsically useless. Take tennis - hitting a ball over a net repeatedly until one of you fails. Boxing - thumping the other guy in the face until he falls. Motor racing - driving around in circles.

It is intrinsically useless but it is great fun and THAT is the reason people do it.

No I disagree. Tennis helps improve fitness and overall health while building hand-eye coordination a necessary life skill. Tennis is not useless in any sense of the word

it is a waste of time to live without pleasantly wasting some time.

Some games are a waste of time.  Daily games where my opponent loses on time or loses by blundering a piece.

I just came across this conversation, and found it most enlightening.  Especially the chap who said chess forums are a waste of time.  Brilliant observation good sir, quite brilliant indeed.

My dear sir, can you not see that I am a gentleman of high birth?  How dare you sir.

It's indeed a big big waste of time.

I have wasted around 30-50 000 hours only sparring with Stockfish.

All I got in return is this book on beating the top engines, which btw. you can still donwload for free as part of a promotion: 2 days more to go from the free promotion, don't forget to download: https://www.amazon.com/Human-Versus-Machine-Stockfish-Komodo-ebook/dp/B0768G8R2C/ref=tmm_kin_swatch_0?_encoding=UTF8&qid=&sr=

Waste a bit more of your time.

Personally, I think that Copenhagen is a description and not an interpretation so he may have been relatively ok.

Perhaps in another universe ...

Avatar of Optimissed

Oh, I don't believe in other universes. Either they are part of THE universe or else it's impossible to get evidence for them.

Einstein's studies is already proving to be a waste a time. But then someone hasta be the guinea pig.

....4all intents (nvm the purpose) ?....time is a waste of time.
