Electronic Chess

I was thinking...I would like to have an electronic chess set that lights up to show the black pieces and the white pieces. The fun thing with this is that at random any piece on the board can change to the opposite color either permenantly or temporarily. Not sure if it has been done yet but would you play it?

You mean with every move one of the pieces might change color?  It might be interesting, but I don't think I would like it.  The kings would either have to remain the same color or both change at the same time.  And it would definitely be bad if a king changed color after being surrounded by its own pieces.

It might be easy to make if you were writing a computer chess program, though.

It sounds cool but in reality it would not work. Could you imagine rooks changing color? They would checkmate your castled King behind the pawns and you would lose immediately.

with exception of the king i think it would be fun...it would relate more to real life...because you never know who would betray the king...strategy would def have to change but i like the possibility of it...if it was a program you could always limit the amount of times a piece or pieces can change perhaps only once or twice during the game to make it more playable...

Isn't regular chess hard enough?

Yeah, that's what I always think when people mention variants.

Could you imagine? You're just about to finally gain control of a square that you've been manuevering to for the last six moves and then your pieces change color. That damn chessboard would end up thrown out the windowLaughing

Yeah, that's the kind of thing that made poor Othello go bonkers...

The game should be called eye-boggle. I would also recommend it as an interrogation technique; there would be no more water-boarding.
