I have not really experienced any myself but there are some who have said otherwise. I just wanted to get an idea on what others have to say!
Elitism in chess? Opinions?

Your angle would have to be that higher rated players act in a superior manner towards lower rated players and then for context, to compare this behaviour to other games and sports. I don't envy you trying to research this and documenting a body of evidence to support your chosen hypothesis.

I remember ~2 years ago some streamer whined about elitism, so it became a hot topic for all of, you know, 1 week.
I always thought it was BS.
Test it out yourself... create a new account with a low starting rating (select "beginner" or whatever the lowest option is during account creation).
Play 10 games at rapid time control, and lose more than half of them... then make a topic in the beginner forum asking for help... you'll get a lot of useful replies.
For example a few recent ones I've seen include offers of coaching, book lists, training advice, people review their games for free, etc:

Hello all, just to clarify, both Hikaru Nakamura and Agadmator, have both commented on chess elitism. I have also spoken to others, who have spoken about it. Many that I have spoken to however, are ECF members. I am just asking the question, that is the best way to understand whether it is real or not.

Ok, well, IMO Nakamura has said a lot of very stupid things during streams... sometimes factually incorrect things... and often even when he knows better. I think he says them on purpose because he is/was very interested in growing his subscriber count, and it was his estimation that this is what you say if you want a horde of mindless children to accept you.
Agadmator I don't know much about.

I haven't read these but maybe it will help..... https://www.chess.com/forum/search?keyword=chess+elitism
Thank you!
Hello all, I am interested in doing a story on whether the claims of elitism in chess are true or not. I would love to hear peoples thoughts on this!
