What is happening with the ELO-SYTEM at CHESS.com? >>> My ELO suddenly dropping to a point where is started to doubt my own abilities in playing chess and/or future improvements.
This all started while attending leagues for the first time (rapid 10 minute games). AN 500 ELO opponent suddenly became very challenging.... moves around the board like a PRO, seeing right through me, possible future tactics (coming his way) AND even being always 2 steps ahead of the game. Certainly behavior you won't expect from an 500 player... LIKE NOT AT ALL!! Giving assumption for the chance of foul play...... (*later I found out in rapid or league games is different somehow.... the rating... BECAUSE...
AND HERE COMES THE EVEN MORE SO INTERESTING PART....
Our GAME-analysis showed I played as an 1450-rated player, while my 500 opponent (to whom I lost) playing as an 1100 rated.
Then the NEXT game, I suddenly got matched up, and played with an 1650-rated player.
And yes, obviously there was SOME differences noticeable in the way he played and me. But not in the way you would expect. AND I still had the feeling I could be ahead and whin the game (if not for the time!!). That was the biggest difference between those two players.
The player 2 (1650 rated) was challanging, but I always felt like I still had a chance and were more equals if not for the time, and him seeing things faster. Playing wise more similarities.
My confusion starts with the 500/600 players, within the same league. Maybe not in the way you would expect. I saw the guy playing good, a solid 1650 player, by his quick thinking, moving around the board with ease and structure (according pattern).
A solid 1600 player, while I still had the feeling I had chances, an even being ahead sometimes, 5 points... better structure etc. Or the guy I just knew I would end up losing on time and not having a solid end-game, so the rest wouldn't matter. Maybe that was his calculation and thought process, so ME the fool thinking I still had a change while running out of time.
WHO KNOWS.....
The BIGGEST difference - I saw and knew - I still had chances, during the game, and ended up very close to winning (it the TIME had not the best of me).
MY CONCLUSION: TIME is the (and my) biggest issue while playing a higher ranked player, and maybe they know it (so whatever they play is doesn't really matter in the end?....
BUT THEN we have the 500-600 ELO rated players, seeing through tactics and playing as 1800's..... This makes me fully doubt the whole ELO-SYSTEM on Chess.com, en the (more recent) construction behind it > ??
DID ANYONE ELSE SEE THIS CHANGE? DOES HAVE AN EXPLANATION????
SHOULD THERE BE A NEW CALCULATING SYSTEN OF SOME SORT????
WHICH FACTORS ARE INFLUENCING THOSE CHANGES AND ... ESPECIALLY THE GAP BETWEEN: 500 ELO AND 1650 ELO (that in reality a 500 player is more difficult to play??)
I don't see myself as a strong chess player. Average at most. But I have the ability for pattern-recognition. AND something feels off here. .
I wrote the above, before watching;
A YouTube video in which GothamChess, let Stockfish (an 3600) play against.... Stockfish himself... (3600).... In his own WORDS... he recalls it as the 'chess has been solved, in the most DEVIANT and BACKWARDS way imaginable'.
A GAME in which Stockfish was forced to make, the WORST possible moves possible, in order for him to be the best ENGINE against his OWN ENGINE !??
SO LETS WATCH THE VIDEO !!!!!!
Silently crying and laughing already. without viewing I have feeling a similar thing is happening in the calculations above. There is something with the current rating system, the big gaps, and then gama analysis either show a 1450 played game. OR while playing higher players..... Me 700 ELO played as ELO 150 and 1650 opponent as 200 ELO!!
YEAHHH sure.............. it was a good game tho!
