Elo grinding is hard as hell, if you encounter lower elo than you if you win if you less elo if you you get deducted 2x the elo you won

It appears you don't understand the rating system.

One problem here is that chess.com uses a multi-part system called the Glicko System.

The first part looks at the differences in the two players ratings. If you beat someone you are rated 100 points above, you don't get many points because the statistics predicted you had a strong chance of winning.

The second part looks at whether or not someone is new or has been inactive. Statistics say that the rating of someone who is new or who has been inactive is likely to be inaccurate. Those players rating adjust more quickly.

First it decides ur chance of winning( ex 30%, 50%, 60%) based on the difference between the Elo of you and the opponent then it takes them in decimal 0.3, 0.5, 0.6 and then if you win it subtracts the decimal from 1 and multiplies it by 10 for example if you had a 60% chance of winning, and you won it would take 10(1-0.6) as the increase in ur Elo here being 40, however it also adjusts it based on the gap between playing date as aldready mentioned. If it was a while having 60% chance of winning it would do a similar calculation 10(0.5-0.6) for you and 10(0.5-0.4) for the opponent thus increasing his by 10 Elo and yours deceasing by 10. If you lose it would do 10(0-0.6) thus making you lose 40 Elo. The common value of 10 in all these calculations is called the k factor

I've heard that you can set the rating difference before the game. You can decrease the elo gap between you and your opponent.

But I agree with you, playing a much lower rated player is a lose situation for you, If you win, you only gain a few ratings, but if you lose, you're gonna lose loads of rating pts. And I often lose to a much lower rated play for some reasons.

Playing a much higher rated play is much more enjoyable and beneficial for me. I might lose 2/3 games but I'd gain more rating and learn new stuff along the way.
