someone can tell me if the rate chess.com gives to player is the international ELO?

Shivsky

Not really.

Any online chess server out there (and there are quite a lot) will use a rating system for different time controls and chess.com is no different. A Chess.com rating can be as (in)significant as a rating on Yahoo chess or some other chess server.

An ELO (or any Federation) rating is awarded to people who play face-to-face OTB tournaments under a regulating/governing chess body.  Many people here commonly refer to this as OTB (over the board) chess.

It' s a pity for me, but I understand

Of course not. There is a difference between 3 days/5 mins per player per game and 2 hours per move per game. If you want to find out how good you are, play in OTB Elo rated tournement, and you will find out!

thank you Simon.

I'll try to do it

Sorry Simon Seirup,

or anyone else that can answer, how can I play in OTB Elo rated tournement?

First join your FIDE affiliated federation  http://www.federscacchi.it/.

You may want to learn about how OTB works at a club. Both for function, stopping the clock after a move, writing the moves down on a scoresheet, and as well OTB etiquette. Some Internet behaviour would be frowned upon.

There is a FIDE sanctioned tournament scheduled for April 2011. "A new International Open in Lido Adriano – Ravenna in Italy will take place from 2-10 April 2011. A €10,000 Prize Fund (first prize €2,500)".

While there you might play in a simul."Judit Polgar will be present and will give a simultaneous on 9 April."

Pet peeve: That's Elo , like Glicko, not ELO.

Árpád Élő. Actually it's kind of funny since his last name in Hungarian is very rare, I've never heard it anywhere else, and it means 'alive' or 'live', which fits nicely with the concept of a rating that can go up or down.

i will say this...the chess website with the most players is the standard, majority rules rules.
