And about the other guy.

He may talk like a donkey and sound like a donkey but don't let that fool you. He really is a donkey.

Got to go, hear you around.

Dear posters,

Please bear with us...we are working to make this thread even better!

In the meantime, please check out today's new Hot Topic....

That's what you said yesterday.

ciao

Syd_Arthur

Please join the new dicussion group  "En passant, use in the right diamond, left square transposition of the proto-isosceles knight's tour (timed)."

Folks, you don't have to go home, but you can't stay here.

Hasta la vista...in seven days.

YANQUI_UXO

7 pages of comments for a simple rule of the game of chess. If someone plays and does not know it, then it's his problem. That's like saying "what if my opponents don't know the offside rule in football, shall I let them score anyway or what?" Obviously no, what else?  Mah!

Syd_Arthur

Good point, YANQUI_UXO,

That is the perfect post with which to end the discussion!!!

Good summation.

Because yours was the final post on this thread...you are the new Thread Killer tm !!!

I mean, to use another analogy, what if you're playing Baseball, and the batter swings and misses, and didn't know it was a strike?!?

If no one posts after you, you will recieve a customized virtual trophy.

In seven days.

You will be so disappointed if people stop posting...

Syd_Arthur

I want that trophy,dagnabbit!!!

Syd_Arthur

Look, it is a big responsibility micro-managing a thread that is so Hot, Hot, Hot!!!

I haven't played chess in days.

So, let's all give it rest, and we'll all talk again soon.

I'm thinking in, let's say...seven days.

This reminds me of the time an asshole said he won with only one knight on the board when my clock ran out. I asked the director of the five-minute-game tournament to explain the rules for the moron. The director didn't know the rules. Looking back I should have just punched out the idiot.

You DID lose. Your clock ran out.

Check this out!

It's NN vs. NN, Viena 1923. Black to move: ...g5+ and both players resign at the same time. White resigned because he didn't know or remember the en passant rule, and black because he did!

...sigh...

Check the diagram. It's amazing! :)

Syd_Arthur

Both players tipped their king over at the exact same moment?

Syd_Arthur

That makes it a lot more intresting, being from a real game...it looked composed.

Syd_Arthur

Good one, Pulpoferia, thank you.

Pulpofeira

It appears in the magazine "Peón de rey" (king's pawn). The source is Christian Hesse's "Expeditions in chess world".
