I am unable to do en passe. please help. For some reason it is not working. Is there something special I need to do?

Is it possible you're trying to do en passant when the rules don't permit it? If you are on the 5th rank--say, e5, and your opponent moves his pawn to f5, you can take the pawn as if it were on f6. That is, you simply move the e5 pawn to f6 and take the pawn that's on f5.

But you may only do this immediately. If you don't take en passant on your immediate next turn, you forfeit your right to do so.

Hope this helps.

That's crazy that I have to have the membership and refer friends to do the en passe move! It's chess! Unbelievable! Thanks.

You also need to be wearing a hat of some sort, or en-passe will not work.

I find a trilby works best

"En Passant

The last rule about pawns is called “en passant,” which is French for “in passing”. If a pawn moves out two squares on its first move, and by doing so lands to the side of an opponent’s pawn (effectively jumping past the other pawn’s ability to capture it), that other pawn has the option of capturing the first pawn as it passes by. This special move must be done immediately after the first pawn has moved past, otherwise the option to capture it is no longer available."

You just got trolled. Don't be so gullible, my friend.

Show me an example, please.

I had it happen to me once, but if it's happening all the time you need to post a game sample to let us check that it's not a problem with the rules themselves.

Dear chinoexcell100,

Yes, it does work. If you follow the rules, it works. There are millions of members of chess.com. I find it hard to believe that you're the first person ever to try en passant (NOT "en passe") on this site, only to discover that it doesn't work.

Besides, methinks you're trolling. So I'll stop now. I hope others do too.
