Even without en passant, 1... b5 would be a lamentable decision.  And btw White took an awful long time to win that (5 Kd4).

Black was very weak on the dark squares.

AndyClifton

Yeah, he's lucky he didn't have a white-squared bishop.

Big fan of the en passant checking in here.

I think I would have enjoyed either playing or at least watching those games that were right in the gray area before they made the rule.

I can hear it now,

"Yes, but under the old rules, I could have taken your pawn! How is that fair? You're lucky we're not playing by the old rules!"

I think a lot of people play en passant just because they want to try it, not necessarily because it's a good move. I have lured lots of people into blunders that were en passant moves where the pawn is pinned to the queen or something

Yeah. I agree

White plays 1. Bg2+ and announces a forced mate. Black laughs and replies 1. ... d5, blocking the check and discovering checkmate on White's King.

White responds with 2. cxd5 and insists that Black has been mated.

Black retorts that the en-passent capture is not a legal move while the White King stands in check.

White claims that the Black Pawn never reached d5 to block the original Bishop-check... it was captured en-passent on d6 before it even reached that square. He insists that Black, not White, has been mated.

Black sweeps all the pieces off the board and smashed the wooden board over his opponent's head.

ok,then.
