Saying that Fischer was a better player is hardly an estimate. Fischer, Capablanca, Morphy are constantly thrown in to the conversations of "best of all time". If Anand is considered one of the best of all time as well then that downgrades the term highly.

End of Era for Vishy Anand..!!!

Robert_New_Alekhine

again, I think he can win. the only reason he lost in 2013 was because he wasn't playing in his usual style. THe title should be End of Era for MAgnus Carlsen..??

if last two tournament cach of them are considered Anand is slightly ahead. he perfomed better in this year candidates than Carlsen's 2013 candidates perfomance. he won bilbao few days ago. for a specific tournament age may not matter- such as Gelfand shared first place with Caruana(who is the best player, last two months) in today finished fide GP.

he may not have greater chance of winning the match, but this does not necessarily mean he's over. he'll perform better than last year.

one great cause of carlsen's success is his mysterious tricks, which brings him, what some call - luck. top players began to explore his tricks. did you see how he lost the completely winning game with Svidler at Sinquefield?

Just because Anand lost to Carlsen, let nobody malign Anand! Anand will hereafter be more active and play a lot of tournaments! Carina,Aronian,Giri ,Svidler, and others in top 10 beware!

whos Carina? does it start with K(arina)?

It is the end of an era for Anand...the end of him being the WCC. It is also the beginning of Carlsen's era...and his goal is to top Kasparov's 7.

I know a lot of you are thinking it, and some people even take offense to it, but let's face it, Anand is on his way out. You can't stay on top forever, and Carlsen has the advantage of youth and looking up the mountain, not descending down it.

WittyBlunder

hard to rule him out!

Anand tried his best here in Sochi, but what if he lost? He is a legend already...

Hopefully Anand fades into bolivian at this point.

I'm not sure Vishy could pass as a Bolivian, frankly.

If An and wanted to be done, to retire a millionaire, to spend the rest of his life training young players in between fishing and taking nap, I can't blame him. But as I was told recently, chess is a parasite. Its hard to just quit, even when you feel beaten.

arul_kumar

Anand has a burning passion for Chess! He will continue to play a LA Korchnoi!
