After you know the basics, all you can do it practice.
endgames
I have that book too! It's great, but I wanted a more personal insight into the endgame. Now I have someone from here working with me...awesome! I also am told you can set up endgame positions in engines to play against to work on it. Have not tried that yet...
You should learn Stamma's Mate, if you haven't it might become useful someday, and how to checkmate with two knights against a pawn. There are some articles on that in the Chesscafe archives... click here for the link (If you like it, then just change the 34 in the address to 35 and it take you to the next part which is about checkmating with two Knights against a King and Pawn. There is third part, to which you would change the 35 to a 36.....
Anywho, if you want a book, then you should buy Dvoretsky's Endgame Manual 3rd Edition... It's a really great book, and it contains many complex endgames.
thanks all of u for ur input!
i might buy dvoretsky's endgame manual book.. and @roi_g11, by complex i mean endgames that have many pieces on the board and are harder than the positions silman gives. some positions, he does not cover at all..
hello all,
While playing in some tournaments recently, I noticed that my endgame skills are somewhat poor (for example, I had a drawn endgame against a 1750, but messed it up and lost). I have Silman's endgame book, which is extremely good, but while I feel it explains the basics, it does not go over positions that are very complex, and there are other endgame positions that I have gotten into which are not covered in that book. Any suggestions as to what I can do? I am looking for some practice sites..
Thanks,
Rohan
since youve reached an endgame, i believe youve stood well from the opening...so may i suggest you study endgame positions that arise from your opening.... It may be quite a strenous study but IM Jonathan Hawkins book is my reccomendation "From Amateur to IM" shows you how to play the endgame. Lastly pick a particular GM whose opening suits you say Fischers and his Sicilian. Honestly...in our current stage (amateur)...we really have to learn the rook endgames and minor piece endgames. But what really should be predominant in our play is TACTICS. Hope it helps.
