Engine ratings - TCEC superfinal

Someone in another thread that I cannot post in wrote about how Stockfish is gaining 2-3 ratings points a week.

Stockfish is handily beating Houdini 5 in the latest TCEC championship.

The engine ratings gains are all relative, however, because they only play each other in matches.  All we know for sure is that they are far better than the best human beings.  I doubt Carlsen could beat Stockfish, ever.  Draw, sure.  Win?  No.

Anyway, back to insular ratings bubbles...If you take a chess club, and have the members play only themselves without any outside interactions, occasionally adding new members but never playing the public at large, you will get the same attenuation near the top...every TCEC cycle, some new engines get tossed in the ring, lose their a$$es, then drop out and get replaced, feeding the top engines' ratings.  Then they copy the Stockfish source next time and try again, only to fail wink.png...

The impressive part of Stockfish is that they are open source and everyone can copy their basic engine, but still the SF dev team is better and Stockfish wins.  The ratings are not indicative of much of anything relative to humans at this point, though.
