I think that that is a terrible idea and that you should feel terrible for suggesting it.
You might be in the majority here, would certainly explain the silence.
Maybe only bring in the animation once in a while. Or does the idea of an animation just "dumb" it down too much for your taste?
I think that a person watching for animations would appreciate only the animations and not the game, and thus have little understanding of the game itself. And beyond that, I just don't think it will make any different. Let's face it - chess is never going to be a popular spectator sport no matter how much folks try to make it appeal to the masses. And that's ok, it doesn't need to be. It's survived 1,500 years without being so, it'll survive longer without being so.
We could have cheerleaders to lead in/out each break. Maybe have a big corporate logo in the center of the board. Or, even better, have corporate sponsorship for each section of the board.
"We now go to Jennifer Shahade who brings us the action from the Coors Light A file..."
Every sport is beautiful, but is killing the fact to find so many black people there. As your photo tells, you are black yourself but growing white. To go for black against a master, no mater who you are, is like losing the half of the game!
