I thought you only get 4700 once for winning at each month however you get it if you win all the time over the same level. that is bad.
I think winning once over 8 month 0 it is ok to get 4700 points but second time you should only get 10 points. is too easy to win over 8 month 0
I think the whole idea of points winning is flawed. The should really just pull random names to win.
seriously though. If play Magnus is a horse race and the potential winner is in the final stretch, would you say the horse down at the starting gate is 'in the running?'
ummm... We know you have 0 chance of making it, but keep trying. Maybe one day you can beat age 10.

just beat 9yr 2month...working my way up to 10 as a hopeful goal. its been hard choosing a response to e4 as black...what are you guys using in defenses against e4? I am having more luck with the modern/pirc. every time I play a dragon against him I hold strong until that one little tactical slip and my position is wrecked. its easier to play him positionally.

I use c6 Caro Kann but it is the only opening I know well by memory.
I play like him like it was otb with no help e.g no database
I have beat magnus 9 years up to 9 month
I haven't checked if it was with black or white I won.
I play the Caro Kann in a slow variation so it is just a matter of time before the engine makes an error.
Good job on that. His rating by that age was 1900. I believe if you beat the 9-11 magnus his rating was just above 2000. I have been doing the same as well with my games. I have been setting up my real board alongside the app and treating it more like an OTB. I tend to concentrate better with a real board.
I hear what you mean about grinding the computer out til it makes an error, then pouncing it. Every time I get into say an open sicilian with the 9 year old Magnus he makes me pay dearly for thinking I can outplay him tactically.
Just played a game against Magnus 10. I got a good endgame with the najdorf (I was winning at move 30 according to stockfish (post game analysis of course)) but eventually got outplayed. I still haven't cracked the 10 year old difficulty but I think I'm getting closer... [Event "?"]

PilateBlue, being a beginner, given you are not using an engine to assist you and beating the 9 year Magnus is quite astounding. Did you beat Magnus 9 year 11 month or are you playing the app locked? even then, if you are winning at move 30 against the 10 year Magnus and say you have only played for a month or two....

The highest I have is 9 yrs 3 months. Have yet to beat him tactically as well.
I'm not using takebacks. I haven't played against any of the different months, but I do have the full app. And it's been about three months now since I started playing chess. I played for the first time (excluding messing around with a chess board maybe once or twice a long time ago) around mid-November. Thank you for the encouragement!
Perhaps you will be the next Magnus in that case.

the win doesn't count with take backs and who wants to use take backs? you get no points in the app if you take back a move because of you misplace a piece.
