Estimate my rating based on 'play magnus' app

I don't think you can estimate anyones rating based on the play magnus app. For example lets say that you defeated magnus aged 10... did you manage that by thinking 10 minutes for every move or did you blitz out your moves in a few seconds? The difference is obvious.

and I highly doubt you can beat age 10 by blitzing out the moves. ;)

on the app it says he was playing for the IM title at age 10. Finished with 5 draws 5 losses. His rating has to be around 2100.

He's not 25 yet...

I played well up until I let the endgame slip. I believe I played the opening well and middle game solid. Take a look and tell me where I went wrong. :/ http://play-magnus-replay.azurewebsites.net/#/-yKOHlOf2

I am frustrated with how opening and middle game are so easy to dominate at 9/4 which is where I seem eternally stuck on....bc in the endgame the computers superior tactics squash me. it seems rather unrealistic that the computer will act retarded and throw you bones until its endgame and then it decides to play like a grandmaster or better. I had the damn thing beat, queened and he had a knight and bishop and we got up to 100 plus moves and I just could not finish him off. I am done for now. need to go back to playing humans...

I haven't been playing against the Play Magnus app much recently but here's a quick win I got against Magnus 10 as white in a nimzo Indian. The game looked pretty even until the engine blundered a pawn. Easy win after that. [Event "?"]

I generally play it without thinking about the moves for too long - except for some key moments in the game, and/or when I feel that I have real chances to score.

At age 10, the program is extremely strong in tactics, has a very deep knowledge and understanding of some openings, but is pretty clueless about some others.

I would lose more games than I win against any of the age 10 levels (I'm about equal, playing the way I do, against age 9).

However, today must be my lucky day - as I beat both age 10/8 and age 10/9 for the first time.

What works for me most of the times I beat this app (in these levels and those immediately below) is to play openings that keep the game reasonably devoid of free play and tactics for a while, while conceding no theoretical disadvantage. In some cases I reach middle game positions which make it possible to transition into better endings, which I often manage to convert.

I post here four games, exemplifying this idea - my wins against the levels from 10/9 to 10/6, in descending order (although the 10/6 is the exception - where an error by Magnus just out of the opening allowed me to win by a pretty Q sacrifice).

Post #174 is now updated - I've included the second game (against Magnus, age 10 and 8 months) with annotations intended mostly for the bright beginner.

And now the third game (against Magnus, age 10 and 7 months) is included in post #174.

I will post one more game - where I win by a cute queen sacrifice on h4.

Ok, just noticed his account has been closed for 18 months but still.

Read the rest of the thread, he made a new account, PirateBlue or something like that.

Everyone of you can beat magnus 10 or at least draw  but don't blitz that was my mistake, it is an engine after all, so blitz will get you nowhere, play a slow game and get a close position and that's it don't try to beat him at tactics you will lose.

I guess your rating based on your chess.comrating.- Between 1200 and 1400 Fide.

Without take backs there is no way a 1200-1400 can beat Magnus 10 unless it's like one every 20 games. Even Masters have lost to Magnus 10 so stop deluding yourself.

I realized that is much easier to win this to magnus if you play sidelines if you play mainlines it will crush you
