I'm 770 rapid and 1200 puzzles spending maximum 30 seconds per puzzle

blackrookcafe

I wouldn't rush the puzzles in my view, sometimes I see the winning line in seconds then spend many minutes running through all options to visualise and calculate.... If I focussed on *target times* I'd be hopeless 😬

I’m 1800 rapid, 2550 puzzles
Redfork2000

I'm 1400 on rapid, blitz and bullet, and 2200 on puzzles. In general if you take your time with puzzles, the rating will most likely be significantly higher than your rapid, blitz and bullet ratings.

Absolutely !
I recently passed 2700 in puzzles thought I am around 1300+ in rapid (and even worse in speedier time formats)
Sometimes I have to spend an hour on a puzzle… As a result I only get 5 pts increments most of the time. It is satisfactory nevertheless, but not true to my real rating I must say.
A form of time management would be great.

I think you can use the puzzles trainer in different ways. The times allocated for high scores are definitely set for blitz training - spotting the pattern quickly and trusting it. But you can also use it to calculate variations accurately at classical speed - taking say 5 mins or so on each one to mimic the time spent on one key middle game move. I do it more like that. I'm 2750 at puzzles, c. 1800 national classic ELO OTB, c. 1400 blitz on chess.com.

If you have solved a lot of puzzels, and played very few games. I would say there is little to no relation between the rankings.
If you played alot of games and only solved few puzzels I would say there could be more to it.

Because a player of 2000 rating would quickly and easily reach 2000+ puzzle rating.
But It doesnt go the other way around.
I have 2000+ puzzlerating on both here and on lichess, and I played so little chess I dont reallly know my rating. Right now it is superlow.

So in general I think its safe to say the relation is quite meaningless.
Other than if you have very low puzzlerating with alot of atempts your game-rating is probably also pretty low.

Envyronce

I am 800 and 2100 on puzzle.

I think it's because I make mistakes which my opponent takes advantage of in the long run. I take more time in a game than a puzzle

Idk how your guys puzzles are so low since Ive had a 1850 puzzle rwting with 1000 elo

Because chess is more demanding then puzzles. For example in a normal game you have a limited time to think, have to do moves that are quite, example moves that don’t win on the spot but makes the position better. In puzzles you are allready are in a winning position but in a normal game you start in a even position and it is your job to try to get a winning position.

I hover between 1650-1800 puzzle ratings, do between 10-20 per day, but I can barely beat the 1,000 computer. I also rarely play live games because I know I’m not that good yet (stupid, I know, but consistently losing just isn’t fun).

the puzzles that I consistently pass I can recognise the play and know how to execute the play but what the puzzles don’t teach you is how to get to those positions in the first place which is why I think my (and everyone’s) puzzle scores are so much higher than their live scores. At least I’ve recognised that in myself I can see a puzzle and know what to do but tactically getting to a position that I recognise is 🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️

Trophy2Medal

I’m 2900 in puzzles

candwh4

I'm 1.7k puzzle rating around 1.1k rapid but I spend a lot of time on puzzles compared to my moves in an actual game.

and, for a new 900 elo player, what´s the normal/usual puzzle rating?

Add 1000 to get your puzzles rating.

if you are a person who cant see tactics in games nor can build a position to induce tactics

You have a good point, because I kind of wanted to know if a puzzle rating of 2000 was average for a 1200

I’d say 2000 puzzles rating is solid and respectable at 1200 level of play.

I am 2400 rated puzzles and 1300 rapid.

Are you able to employ the tactics you are recognizing?

How are you guys so high in puzzles?

I'm 2400 puzzles as well but was 2200 blitz just a few days ago (and have over 2000 bullet and rapid...)

it's also possible they allow themselves move time per puzzle before giving up, treating it as an exercise rather than a puzzle rush thing

i'm solving 3500+ rated puzzles on average & am about to hit a 3900 puzzle rating... i routinely spend 10 or 20 minutes solving a single puzzle in order to quadruple-check all the lines & sometimes need an hour to crack a really tough one.
