Ethics, Training, and 'Live Play'

I am currently in a very difficult (for me) situation due to my poor endgame ability.  The situation involves sufficient material where I should win, and the worst trade I can imagine leaves me with two connected edge pawns v a knight (theoretically a win).  I want to train 2 pawns v knight endgame with my chess engine specifically WITHOUT placing my opponents moves (or the current or prospective situation) into the engine.  Just 2 pawns on their starting rank, the knight and kings placed randomly.

I am a firm believer in not using engines to "assist" one's play without prior agreement, but I realize that this is a deficiency in my play.  I have been keeping a strict regiment whereby I have been training endgames, but now that I am in an endgame, I need to ask:

Is it ok for me to continue with my regiment, or do I need to limit myself because of this game?

I don't use book or databases and it's not easy, but I do it. I just practice and play a lot. Invest in a program like Chessmaster Grandmaster edition or edition 10 and you'll be able to work on your endgame.

That's what I wanted to do, but due to the length of time of any response, I wound up drawing it.  So now I'm back to my normal routine.

Maybe you could try a simple board. Playing with real pieces is nice because it allows you to move them with your fingers instead of your mouse (although I know that moving the mouse is more instinctive). Moreover, you will learn endgames from both sides that way. The random function should allow you to test many different configurations. In know you could have some difficulties with the CPU, but anything that comes from it will be learnt in a really efficient way.

 You can't download it though...
