Hi 

Q1. In explorer the number of games given with a certain position sometimes appears in gray and sometimes in white. Is this just a programming thing or is there some significance to it?

Q2. Is there a legend somewhere that describes the different types of tournaments.?

A1. It will only link positions where there are 10,000 (or maybe just under, 10,000) games.
