fabiano should retire

People who would lose to him 100-0 in any time control under the sun, probably if he's blindfold too, don't get to say he "sucks"
He's a bit worse compared to the field than he is in classical. And really Magnus (and Hikaru) are just special at those rapid speeds. Fabiano is not the only top player like that. And the idea that the chess world is going to pass him by and become all blitz and rapid is silly. The most that could happen is that classical controls become a little faster.

Very well said!
Only retire?
Not go to the top of the Empire State Building stand on the ledge and then just as he is about to jump off, shoot himself in the head and the fall down?

... Sure you do ... John Gochnaur is frequently referred to as the worst baseball player ever... Batted lifetime .187 and had 98 errors in a single season. He did suck. Would I do any better? No... But that isn't the bar of comparison. He is a professional, and needs to be judged against his peers, not against his fans.
Perhaps he just can't be lucid with pressure, or perhaps it was just a bad day. Don't forget that all his opponents were top tier players too.
After watching many games from Caruana, I can safely say that he deserves his spot. He's just a genius along with Magnus.

We haven't seen the last of Fabi yet.
He just gave Carlsen his toughest WC match to date
Remember, both Smyslov and Spassky lost their first WC match, too.
He is going to be one of Carlsens biggest threats for some time.

Well saying some professionals suck is what most people do, but they shouldn't. Even a bad professional athlete is pretty damn good relatively speaking.
The ratings there doesn't really mean anything to me when you're such a high tier player. How many of us have been beaten by someone whose rate was -200 than ours? Yeah, you got my point.
Especially on faster games, people tend to make more mistakes. Perhaps if you do a even little mistake against an intermediate that won't hurt you too much, but a single little inaccuracy against a 1700+ rated player will most likely disatvantage you to death.
The second-best chess player in the world should certainly take chess advice from a third-rate patzer on Chess.com
Comparing a baseball player with a .187 lifetime average to the second highest rated chess player in the world seems pretty stupid
