Good morning, all.
There is currently a thread under the Openings topic in which players are describing the practice of consulting Chess.com's Opening Explorer during live chess to select moves.
The assertion is that this is somehow fair play.
I completely disagree.
To me, this is blatant cheating. Unfortunately, one of the reasons I generally do not play games longer than 5 minutes online is that I have no interest in playing my opponent's computer.
My question:
What do the mods think about this practice?
For the chess.com community:
Are you ok with your opponent using an openings database to play against you during live chess?
If this practice wouldn't be allowed during an over the board tournament, why does chess.com currently allow it? Is there any way Opening Explorer can be disabled during live chess?
Respectfully submitted,
-Rich
Using any resource, other than your own memory during Live games, is not allowed.
Daily games, Explorer is allowed.
