I am playing a tournament at my town, and in this game my oponnent made a blunder in a drawn endgame and I promoted my last pawn. I was tired after 3 hours playing and, so quick, I played this winning move, but my question is if you think it is unpleasant to do this:

I thought it was quicker. Now I regret not to take queen. What do you think?

looking quick i imagine a queen might be a little faster but a knight promotion always looks pretty

just the same. If you know how to mate w a rook.

A Queen would have saved you some moves. In the position, an underpromotion to a Knight would result in you being up a Rook, while a promotion to a Queen would result in you being up a Queen, as your opponent cannot avoid a Rook trade or worse.

As a general rule, always promote to Queen, unless it's necessary for an underpromotion, e.g., underpromoting to a Knight when its necessary to gain a tempo with a check or a Rook when a Queen would stalemate.

Just my two cents.

PS - I love underpromotions! =)

Doesn't really matter; either move wins easily

I think the Knight promotion is OK. Somebody said Queen is faster and easier. Faster, sure, easier, not so sure. With the Knight promotion all copunterplay is removed. A tired player now does not have to worry about unpleasant pins and stuff.
