Faking a LOW rating to win !!
haha Darth good job on the back peddling ! I will give you that. the Dark side is not as strong as we thought !
Darth_Algar, he get it alright. There are many sandbaggers on this site. If you want, I can give you examples. If you haven't come across any, it's good but it doesn't mean they don't exist. You want proof? I can show you ample of evidence that such things happen. Also, if you want, I can keep updating this thread about them with the permission of OP. You can't criticize him like that. That's not cool.
Update as much as you like Vibrantmoves ! and you are absolutely on the money correct , there are many sandbaggers on this site and I provided a perfect example which you would think would be more than enough proof for most people.
Don't worry to much about this Darth character. He seems to be the kind of person that just wants to keep splitting hairs, playing word games and denying the obvious. Can't see the elephant in the room. There's one in every crowd.
Reading my way through most of this thread (well -- skimming, really, there's been a lot of pot-stirring going on here and frankly I didn't want to get any on me) has convinced me of two things, one of which I already knew: 1. there is a fair amount of rating manipulation/sandbagging on this site and 2. there are just as many sore losers.
Darth Algar did not imply that this site doesn't have sandbaggers. They just drew attention to the fact that you have constructed a fifteen-page paean to your loss. You lost. Move on.
In the words of Becket: "Try again. Fail again. Fail better."
Isayoldboy, haha this isn't about me or my loss. I moved on immediately, withdrew from the tournament, no big deal for me.
As a matter of fact I have LOST more games on this site than you have played in total lol ! It's not about winning or losing, this thread is about misrepresentation of ratings.
Many people (not you) seem to be in denial that this even exists.
Finally, I have not constructed a 15 page paegan to my loss, as you said.
I have contributed, along with many others (including yourself ) to a rather lengthy discussion regarding Faking a Low rating to win.

I did not say that there aren't sandbaggers. In fact I plainly stated that they do exist and that everyone is aware that they do. The issue is that OP has been whining that his opponant was sandbagging, rather than owning up to his own loss. The other issue is that going on to the forums, pointing fingers at specific users and accusing them of cheating is absolutely not cool. If the OP earnestly believes he has a legit grievance he should contact the site's staff rather than calling out another user in public.
Whining Darth ? Really ? is that all you got lol ! As far as calling out another user in public , I hereby call YOU out ! to a friendly match, If you win I promise I won't start a thread or whine, if I win, you publicly apologize for suggesting that I am acting like a petty sore loser.... what do you say Darthy-boy ??
Some people have bad days, and their rank goes down. Some people have bad days, and they lose to <900 players. Nothing to be ashamed of, ratings can be inflated and deflated, especially when a player is new. Do some research, if the player has only played a few games, then it makes sense. Your rating can fluctuate by around 100 when you first start playing, so if he lost his first few games on chess.com, and then played you, there is a very good chance he is better than his rating.
It's called sandbagging mate. Or they could have loged off for a while and gotten better than came back..............

OP isn't ranting. He's bringing this issue to everyone's notice. Wasn't it obvious? As we can see in this thread, some people still believe that sandbaggers don't exist and OP is whining about his losses which clearly isn't the purpose of this thread. In fact, he is talking about people who intentionally reduce their ratings to enter and win tournaments.
ATM I am being beaten quite often by players with a very low ranking at 10 minute blitz. It is a disaster. They play far too well, they have sofisticated tactics and they don't make a mistake. Are they strong players using the account of a weak player?
I wouldn't rule out the possibility that there are some people sharing accounts. Parents letting their child access the site through their account, or maybe siblings using the same account. Stuff like that. I'm sure it's technically against the site's rules, but it's bound to happen and there's no real way to combat it.
Occassionaly somebody substantially lower rated than me will rip me apart. It happens. I've lost to players 400 points lower. If you play enough games it will happen from time to time.
I had some whinger called Senmaida putting notes on my account that I'd been sandbagging and then played serious against him (I won 4 and drew 2). I'm nearly 300 points lower than him and he was clearly just having an off day. Sometimes you just have to accept that your play sucked.
i have smurf accounts, but only for trying out new things, like the schliemann, and weird things. like for practice.
