Very true marcosite, you can't choose family as they say.

Crikey BL.  Guess we all agree dads can be the winkest link then.

I should say, I love my dad though.  My mother left home every other week until I was 11 & then, finally (thankfully) never came back at all, so yeah.  No cultural excuse either.  People are fickle is all I know.

My personal family history is not an indictment of "dads" all around the world, marco. (At least my dad cared for my sisters and is always there for them, when he is needed)

There are good dads and bad moms in the West...but at least here, it is a case by case basis and the laws are there for people to fall back on...

Ha...you sort of can.  I've thrown most of my mine back.

Be nice if that were true, friend.  In the real world, the UK loses 2 women every day to domestic violence.

I don't get why women don't just stand up for themselves. Women are free to vote,  divorce, etc....

it's not like women in the West are forced into marriage at age 12, don't have the right to vote, get schooling, etc...

This isn't speaking from personal experience so it's difficult to answer but from looking after people through my job I think some people struggle with life choices if they have been abused in the past and it's a heart wrenching cycle repeating itself.

We western women shout loud & proud.  Sadly, it makes us warped or beaten.  We swap a burka for a bikini & still worry about how we look.

Those figures are wildly inaccurate. On average 7 women and 2 men are killed by partners every month in the UK.  Whilst still far too many it is one of the lowest rates of domestic violence in the world.

Good thing there are people and organizations such as yours to help people in these situations, Sharon.

That's the saddest reality you just pointed out Tragg.

I don't think the burka is a woman's choice for her to swap  in those countries...

I agree with you about the rest, though I must say - I haven't met any "warped" women in my lifetime...

Sometimes the hardest and saddest part is helping the person realise they are worthy of help.

In the end OP....dad battering mum will always be bad.  Mum may be a big-mouth bitch who double-dealt your dad but.  But he's dad.  You don't beat mothers, especially in front of impressional 18yr old sons. I'm sorry Amruth.  You will have to face you have a rubbish male role model. Undecided Buck the trend & fight back. Save yourself OP.  Some families are defunct & it's better that way.

You seem a very compassionate and empathetic person, Sharon. It's a good thing for the world...

It's something I can't do...I don't have patience.

Thanks Feufollet, not always a good thing though as I feel other's pain acutely sometimes.

Wishing you all the best Amruth and hope your situation improves.

Avatar of marcosite

Trag..I will easily concede to you on the stats.  My point remains that many western women toy with survival.  UK women refuges' are less well funded that the NHS so we all know that doesn't stand a chance then.

Speaking as an unbattered woman who can dress as she bloody well likes, I'd like to remember that we are kind of lucky to criticise.

OP: what do your relatives think about this?

Remember to take care of yourself. One of my sister is like you....and I have to peel everybody off of her every once in a while...she lets the life get sucked out of her
