There was a big incident in checkers this week (by no means the trivial game that many chess players seem to think) where a Russian played under a Russian flag.

Russia is still serving an International sporting ban for hiding drug usage so it comes back to the old "Is Chess/Checkers a sport" question.

That proves that checkers isn't a sport.

As for the checkers-chess comparison, computers solved checkers in 2007. It will take hundreds of years of computer advancement to solve chess.

Checkers is like tiddlywinks compared to chess.

I’ll have you know, that tiddlywinks is on par with chess ! ....how dare you suggest otherwise ! 😤

Wasn’t Korchnoi thinking about playing with the Jolly Roger flag once upon a time?

Why doesn't chess.com offer the Jolly Roger, like L-word?

Chess isn't a sport either, it's a bleeding board game, albeit an extremely good one.

For the record, a chess grandmaster would stand pretty much no chance at checkers against a checkers grandmaster.

I wonder how Nepo feels about it?  It seems an exception should be made for chess, which is not impacted by a "doping" problem.

Not true. Chess is rife with Red Bull

Ian Nepomniatchi won't be able to play under the Russian flag in the world championship match against Magnus Carlsen.

This isn't much big of a deal and is not going to impact the game in any way whatsoever , but everyone loves to and has a desire to represent their country in a big event , which Ian would not be able to unfortunately.

I don't think it will make much of a difference

But yeah, it would be better if he was allowed to represent his country
