To say I'm disappointed with this illogical ban is an understatement. I've been trans for many years; the only possible advantage I can think it confers on me while playing is to make me feel

calmer. I'm never going to play in a world event, but it's the principle of the thing. FIDE need to reconsider.

Explain your reasoning please.

It's ridiculous. There's no scientific consensus I'm aware of that the variables of sex and gender would make any difference to competency in chess, creating any disadvantage to cis women who compete against trans women.

The differences in the average ratings and apparent rating ceilings between sexes are easily explained by the ways in which society places barriers to women becoming involved in the sport both at a young age and as adults, e.g. stereotyping, less parental encouragement, the "common wisdom" that women are worse at chess/can't become world champions, misogynistic attitudes expressed by people like Kasparov and creepers like Nigel Short, etc.

All this Fide decision does is place a new barrier to trans women's involvement too, so surprise surprise it's more picking on women.
