FIDE should give out online titles

Online titles would be a joke. I doubt FIDE would want to associate themselves with that.

thirdeded?

amen to that. I also think that is a bad idea. Half the world would be playing like Rybka.

Objection ! I dissent your honour! Laughing

I think most people at the GM level would prefer to not always be a suspect, after all of their hard work, nor endure FIDE feeling the need to put an asterisk next their rating, because their honesty couldn't be substantiated.

CalamityChristie

says it all!  (i think)

I think the OP is missing the fact that if he were serious he could play on ICCF and get a FIDE recognised GM title that way - which is pretty close to what he is looking for?

gaereagdag

aCTUALLY no. [1] I only play correspondence chess games a few times a year for training purposes and [2] any title that I want to get doesn't involve me using an engine.

I'm not for internet titles per se. I also don't know a lot about fide.

But it seems they are leaving a big pool of players behind. This is not the stoneage, it's the internet era

Internet titles would just promote cheating, so why do you think cheaters deserve so much recognition?

TheGreatOogieBoogie

Is this a joke thread?  No, FIDE shouldn't give them out, ICC (or whatever site would care to) should, and even then they would have the same lack of respect and credibility as a FIDE title.  Any FM or NM could be an Internet GM, easy.
