Fide Title Changes

Starting from January 1st, 2022, any title application must include at least 1 norm from an open swiss tournament with at least 40 players. This was caused because the Fide council was uncomfortable with Mishra Abhimanyu playing round-robin tournaments exclusively in Bucharest. Abhimanyu's title will stay, but now it will be much more difficult for anyone to break his record. It will also increase the difficulty of getting the International and Grandmaster title. What are your thoughts? Is this change really fair for everyone?

Wow, is that actually official?  Do you have a link?  If it is true, I think it is for the best.  Norms (especially GM norms) have had a lot of controversy over the past couple decades.  Nepo will at least be happy haha.

It says, "The goal of the meeting was to inform FIDE members about some changes for FIDE title regulations which will likely be implemented Jan 1, 2022."

Is there anything online about the the commission approving the changes, or however that ends up working?

i think it will be great...but i think they should remove Abhi's title also he achieves it by not so fairway---as the op mentions it will very difficult to break his record----

which i think will be very unfair

idk btw it's starting in 2022 not 2021. Ahbi is pretty much GM strength anyway

You know you cheated real good when they change the rules immediately afterwards.

Why not? He got his title the same way 100's of other GMs have.

That's just my opinion, but I think they should get rid of titles altogether. We have a rating system, which gives us a more accurate and objective way of describing person's playing strength.

Not really.

When people want to break the record for youngest CM they can (and do) organize tournaments locally for their would-be-champion kid to win a bunch of games. Sometimes other kids are pressured into letting the kid win.

The GM title is different because you have to preform at GM level against people who already have the title, and there are a lot of regulations to make it very hard to fake. For example __ number of different nations have to be represented at the tournament. I think the GM title (and the IM title) are much better than other titles.
