Starting from January 1st, 2022, any title application must include at least 1 norm from an open swiss tournament with at least 40 players. This was caused because the Fide council was uncomfortable with Mishra Abhimanyu playing round-robin tournaments exclusively in Bucharest. Abhimanyu's title will stay, but now it will be much more difficult for anyone to break his record. It will also increase the difficulty of getting the International and Grandmaster title. What are your thoughts? Is this change really fair for everyone?
Wow, is that actually official? Do you have a link? If it is true, I think it is for the best. Norms (especially GM norms) have had a lot of controversy over the past couple decades. Nepo will at least be happy haha.
