I actually like celebrating milestones from others - it is a nice confidence boost for them and for me it makes me feel more like a community we are all a part of. Personally, I like sharing the chess journey with others and vice-versa...even the small milestones or setbacks along the way 
It makes it feel more "real" in my opinion
