Finding a chess teacher

Online chess lessons are good. If you want game analysis online or offline together or individually, just let me know.

I have had lessons from Valeri Lilov, he is on the coaches list here. He is excellent and uses Skype, he is very good and also enjoyable to work with.
Good Luck with your chess.

I live in Texas. Skype lessons are probably my best option, but I'd like to not pay more then $40-50 per lesson, otherwise it gets too pricey...

So you believe chess.com will help me to teach myself? What are the best features?

Yes definately, though we all learn differently, but if you really explore the resources on here for a very little a month you are getting a lot more than $40-$50 a lesson. Not that i think that face to face tuition isnt valuable, it is and i would like some myself.
It is just that the database, videos, tactics trainer, chess mentor...etc.etc are all fantastic, or at least have been for me.
Sign up for a monthly, try it for a month and see, it is a very little expense a month, if you dont like it or improve then go back to the free account, you dont need to pay a lump sum.
try it and see.

I think the features that intrigue me the most are Chess Mentor, and the Tactics Trainer.
I don't find that videos have ever improved my rating very much, its just a lot of information being thrown at you, and you don't really retain any of it.
Coaches can target your specific weaknesses, thats a good point also..
Might sign up here, not sure...

Well you are willing to pay $40 for an hour or so, then why not pay the $14 for a month to find out, what is there to think about ;-)

Yeah, i might sign up, but I really doubt videos will improve anyone's rating..
Of course, this thread has kinda gotten sidetracked..

Well doubt is fine, but you wont know unless you try, and you dont need to watch any of the videos, the tactics trainer and chess mentor are not videos.
But its all choice, you could of experienced a day of it in the time this thread has gone on ;-)
Good luck finding what you are after.

I don't have any luck finding a chess teacher so far. I've contacted a few local masters and they are all horrible at speaking english and not very good teachers.
Do you think taking lessons on-line is the best option, or where else would you look?
