First Edition “The Queen’s Gambit” book

As many already know, the new Netflix miniseries “The Queen’s Gambit” based on the Walter Tevis novel has gained some acclaim over the past couple of months. In general, I make an effort to read novels prior to watching shows/movies based off of books. As a result, I have not seen the show yet since I did not read the novel. Before the miniseries release, about 1.5 years ago, I came across this novel in a bookstore and being a casual (borderline obsessive as many people on this site may attest to) chess player, the title immediately caught my attention and I purchased the book (despite minor scoffing from my then girlfriend, now wife). Even better, the book happened to be a first edition. Fast forward to the present, I felt pretty suave (but not really) since I had purchased the book before it became “popular”. Furthermore, I checked the listing for a first edition on eBay and noticed they were getting bids up to ~$350. When I told my wife, she instantly started pressuring me to sell the novel. Of course, I am conflicted because 1) I haven’t read the book yet (behind the other 60 or so books I plan to read on my bookshelf) and 2) I feel like the book would be a great collectible to hold onto. Nevertheless, I feel that the miniseries might lose popularity soon and thus, the value of the book may depreciate (to the general populace but not to me). Anyway, I wanted to see what opinions other Chess.com users have regarding the future of my first edition “The Queen’s Gambit” novel.

I'd cash in now,  Doubt that it will ever be worth this much again.  There will be plenty of copies available once the current craze ends for you to choose from.   Still, a first edition is pretty cool... Probably didn't help any, did I ? wink.png
