so today, i was playing this FM and we had an equal ending but he had like 10 seconds only.I played for the flag and he blundered in time pressure. After the game, he was just so salty in the game chat, saying some rude stuff about me going for the flag. I wont say who he is and i won't say what he said, but i wanna discuss just one thing, is flagging unethical or part of the game? lemme know ur thoughts. thx

Yes, it is, it was and it will remain an unenthical part of the game, but if your opponent decides to play an non increment game, then HE HAS NO DAMN right to say anything to say you after getting flagged.

Flagging is a part of chess, and it is fine. Of course, if you are losing by a queen+ and your opponent has a reasonable amount of time, resigning is the most courteous option. But you were in a drawn position, where he had less than 10 seconds, so it’s completely fine.

yeah, i agree its unethical, but I have 2 reasons in my favour( at least according to me)

1.This is online chess so flagging is bound to happen

2.he should have just played 3+2

Thats why I am not playing 3+0 and also I quit bullet, even though I am good at flagging , I dont consider it as a skill and also I dont get a chance to flag as I play slowly and so I have like 10 secs and my opponents have 1 min so I don't get any chance to flag them sad.png

i mean, flagging is not completely wrong IMO but it should not be used every time

Flagging is part of chess only in Armageddon, which rarely happens thats it and also I saw some videos on ChessBase India where the guy who is winning, his opponent throws pieces while making moves and so he draws it.

I would say in online chess, flagging is part of the game and a tricky resource to defeat your opponent!

People are so bad sometimes, I have a queen they have a pawn on 2nd if they have white and vica versa and I have 10 secs, they dont accept draws and flag me in 30 min.

Man, you are a very strong player , you must be playing online for practice or to try some cool or prep stuff? So that it will help you in OTB.

Agreed. Of course, it has little impact on otb chess if you flag, but for online it’s fine

Flagging in a way is detrimental to the beauty of chess as a game....

But, this is just the way online chess is...

Ok, but a person won't get anything in OTB if he just flag his opponents, even if its a no increment game, one should play at his best and not directly go for a flag.

Pulpofeira

Online? You can do that OTB.
