Fluctuating Rank

Anyone else notice a pattern in the strength of opponents not related to their rank? For instance, I go on runs where I easily beat everyone, then go on a losing streak and it seems like people are simply playing better than me. This doesn't seem so related to normal streaks. From what I can tell it's a phenomenon in the ranking systems algorithm. Anyone else notice anything like this?  

I just put it down to the law of averages. I notice the same thing, my ratings steadily increase to a peak and then steadily, or rapidly, fall back down. The trick is to ensure the overall trend is upwards. Rating isn't important however imo, I find it a distraction. Loss is a better teacher than victory anyway.
