Is it for casual gaming only, or do you wish to do rated USCF games and tournaments?
Flyer from Chess Club

Flyers never really helped for my club, word of mouth was the most successful, but as for actual design itself, the typical applies. Rule of Thirds, simple colors, balance/contrast, just to pull people who are interested. Then, from there, you can decide on how much emphasis for casual or rated.

Well, heck, I mean, you just need something to be printed off that you're going to put up around town right? All it needs to do is draw other chess players attention and get some people in some seats, eh?
If you post the relevant info, you can be assured one guy with have his microsoft word open and play around with it for you, that guy being me.
If anyone else takes a stab, all the better, haha.

Would something like this work?

Or maybe this?

I made these for my club. If you give me the pertinent information, I can easily incorporate it into a flyer and send you a PDF file for printing.
Well, here you go....
Clarion University Chess Club
Place- Gemmell Room ? (I'll give the room number to the finailst)
Time - (Same as above)
All Levels Invited, lesson available or just some fun chess!
Color scheme must incorprate Blue and Gold as the main colors
ANDgive a 'theme' that we can use for the chess club for the furture (This is a new club)
Any help would be great!

Make it funny (not like Dilbert, he's not funny). Folk think that chess is all serious and classy, these things are not that appealing to Uni students (cool ones anyway). Avoid the bohemien angle, this will attract pretentious students that think they know how the world works because they once did a low paid job and read some Marx. Essentially, just make it look fun/sociable, bit of a laugh, booze, getting wired, that sort of thing.
Keep it simple, loose, if you try too much it'll be all tight.
:)

Yeah, that's exactly it, give the people what they want! You should start a club Mowque :)

Dilbert is hilarious, but only to those of us who have worked in the engineering field. :) It probably doesn't make much sense to others.
Pizza, beer and chess... sounds like a great challenge! (Heck, it sounds like a great CLUB for that matter!)

That's why Dilbert makes me sad. I've worked in an office and there was Dilbert cartoons making office type jokes that only people in offices understood. I hated the fact that even the humour in the office was office related, I used to do anything to escape that. It's like that Gary Larsen when there are scientists around a blackboard laughing because somebody's written e=mc3.
I need to design a flyer for my chess club. Any ideas? WHat type of info should i inculde, and how creative? This is for a UNi setting...the club is just starting out
