In an ideal world people SHOULDN'T have to hide their sex, but we all know that if you have a feminine name or an avatar with a female face, it attracts attention. Shouldn't have to be that way, but sadly, it is. So if someone wants to avoid immature advances, it might be wise to not even reveal they are female. this is exactly what I'm saying. Girls say they do not want any attention from guys on chess.com, yet post pictures of themselves, have a provocative avatar, have a feminine username; pretty much putting themselves out there.
imo, if your a girl on chess.com, it's best to keep it anonymous unless you want many men messaging you.

I do not hear, or read of, women in the UK claiming to be oppressed. I have sometimes heard complaints of inequitable treatment of women in certain areas (eg employment). But this is a long way from claiming oppression. If you want to find oppression of women go to Saudi Arabia, for example, or Taliban ruled Afghanistan.
