LOL! I can't wait.
For sale - Paul Morphy's chess set

Considering this board (not set) that was once played on by Capablanca is valued at $3,000( http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/roadshow/archive/201004A42.html ) I would suggest that if you are serious, an authentic Morphy set would be worth significantly more. In the 1880's a set presented to Morphy was sold for $1,500. Accounting only for inflation and not rarity, that would make a Morphy set worth at a minimum $34,500. I think if such a set existed it would fetch at least double that at auction.
So, yeah. If you have a complete set and a letter of authenticity from Southeby's, $1,200 seems like a fair price to me. Let me know.

@OP before you give me that chess set, you should read this enlightening thread created by someone who seems rather convinced they know what all things "chess" should cost:

I have some of Alekhine's original notes that he wrote during his match against Capablanca. Here's an excerpt: "Capablanca is a faggot and I'm going to beat him".
$3,000 only, any takers?

No, but do you have Fischer's notes?
I do! When Fisher played Alekhine, he wrote a note. Here's an excerpt: Alekhine is a patzer and i'm going to beat him!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Do you also have the book on the Karpov - Fischer match? ;P
Yes, in mint condition! It's very like the book of the Karpov-Kasparov match but with Fischer's name and image there instead, that's why Fischer was complaining about them memorizing moves. The only slight caveat is the binding isn't the highest quality - you know those old Soviet publishing standards, a bit of duct tape and phocopied pages.
I have a chess set that was owned by Paul Morphy during the 1800's. I had it appraised at $2500. I am asking for $1200 USD discount (Twelve Hundred United States Dollars). Can't get a better deal than that. I will post up a photo soon. If anyone is interested in this elegant piece of chess history, pls pm me. Or just wait for the photo.
