The story is fake because any company smart enough to create a super computer that powerful would be smart enough to not shut it down and instead collect extortion money from the FIDE in exchange for not releasing it onto the market.

Once again - if a supercomputer solves chess, why do you think that's going to automatically give you the same ability as said computer?

It won't.  A computer may "solve" chess one day, but no one person will.

Seconded. Connect 4 is a solved game (you can even find a paper with the proof online) but it still gets played over the board for fun because it is too complicated for a human to memorize/understand all winning lines.

connect 4  has nothing to do with memorizing lines. you couldn't win against me in connect 4 if I go first unless I am really careless.

I have found the system you have to use in order to win.

bobbyDK

I haven't lost a game in connect 4 since I used the strategy mentioned in
http://janderson99.hubpages.com/hub/Winning-Strategies-for-Connect-4-or-Four-in-a-Line-Games

the chart in the strategy is all you need.

You could have said it a little nicer Im only a kid but thanks anyway.

IM pfren is one of the few titled players (an International Master, in his case) on this forum who is willing to take the time to answer questions and comment on average players' games.

Among the regulars on this site, he is well known for the breadth of his knowledge, and for his incisive opinions and uncompromising point of view.

On the other hand, he is also considered to be "a prickly character"... a descriptive phrase which is sometimes mistakenly abbreviated to "a prick".

TheDon10

Once again I never said I believed it I was just asking a question and I will never give an IM respect just because he is an IM I have to actually respect them first.

Look at it this way. You can go through your life only ever giving people your respect once they have, in your eyes, earned it and that is your choice.

However, looking at it from another point of view - would you go around to someone's house, who you have never met, and tell them they had to earn your respect before you'd listen to them? Probably not. Why is chess.com (the house in this metaphor) any different seeing as pfren is a long term resident and widely respected amongst the community within?

The point is I'm not going to give him my respect just because he is respected by others, thats the way I live and Chess.com is no different

Suffice to say that I will never dress a turd with cherry syrup, and say "here is a candy". No, it's still a turd, and I cannot do much about it.

And this is not just about moves, but also misconceptions, conspiracy theories, and all kinds of ridiculous stuff which is selling very well to chess, or life illiterates.

Mate, you're an IM. How about getting a proper title..........jackass.

What? an IM is a "proper title"...

TheDon10

No as we stated earlier IM is ignorant monkey but in differnt cases it means intellegent magician

Bucko258

I'm pretty certain that in pfren's case it means incompetent moron

TheDon10

Even better

It seems like once again there is a thread claimed by the people who love to insult IM Pfren. I for one always enjoy reading his comments and appreciate his attempts to teach us "lowly folk" the complexities of chess, even if his method can appear harsh. He usually comments on openings and endgames, and for a player poorly versed in such intricacies I always take the time to read his posts.

And can we admit, his harsh method of speak is often hilarious.

So many sensitive little souls in the world. Heaven forbid the bearded man should be mean to us :0(

Bucko258

Looks like someone is sucking pfren's dick

TheDon10

Sensitive stop sucking the bearded mans match stick
