I have searched and searched and googled and youtubed...that last being actually quite painful...and I can't find anything that explains the term "sharp lines."  As in, "that opening leads to sharp lines."

Can anyone explain it to a newb whose apparently a little thick??  Undecided

Thanks for the help ....

'sharp line' there is no distinct meaning to it.. You call it sharp line when the position is very sharp!!;) i.e. When a very slight inaccurate move is made.. Will result in a bad position... Thus being in a sharp position is difficult for both the sides.. Hope this helps..:)

Sharp lines are when making correct moves in the position is vital.  The win "teeters" and one slip is deadly.

Any position can become "sharp" out of nowhere. Usually it's just a synonym for "treacherous" or "complicated."

I forgive you!

@--a can you lend me your sense of humor?

In mathematical terms, I'd say a sharp opening is one in which less than 10% of the moves that can be played aren't losing. On the other side, 90% of the moves in a sharp opening lead to immediate loss. It means you have a greater probability of picking a losing move.

Well Ash....May I call you Ash?  A sense of humor is a difficult thing to acquire.  It's more of a life style than a choice.  There is only one way to develop a real sense of humor (one that sees you through all life's little kicks to the man sack..and that is to accept as an axiom the following advice....espoused so harmoniously by those higher beings who dain to travel among we mortals....Monty Python..

Incidentally, you don't need to be embarassed about asking a question either.
