Forgive me for this terrible newb question....

Sharp lines are when making correct moves in the position is vital. The win "teeters" and one slip is deadly.

Any position can become "sharp" out of nowhere. Usually it's just a synonym for "treacherous" or "complicated."

In mathematical terms, I'd say a sharp opening is one in which less than 10% of the moves that can be played aren't losing. On the other side, 90% of the moves in a sharp opening lead to immediate loss. It means you have a greater probability of picking a losing move.

I'm an analyst so this explaination is perfect for me...thanks

Well Ash....May I call you Ash? A sense of humor is a difficult thing to acquire. It's more of a life style than a choice. There is only one way to develop a real sense of humor (one that sees you through all life's little kicks to the man sack..and that is to accept as an axiom the following advice....espoused so harmoniously by those higher beings who dain to travel among we mortals....Monty Python..
