And I would say quit dithering on in your unhumorous fashion, Random.  And please get off that Armageddon kick of yours as well--more conflagrations we do not need.

That's pretty funny.

C'mon, what kind of idiot would say that?

ilikeflags

i read it somewhere.

AndyClifton

As long as you didn't read it twice.

i once had a coach.  he broke my heart.  never again.

AndyClifton

so i busted his jaw

I'm putting myself into the draw for the simple reason that I'm 27 and have never managed to go much farther than the beginning principles (Chess For Dummies by James Eade, etc.)  I get anxious and frustrated easily when playing another person or facing a difficult computer as a result of this stagnation, which only serves to perpetuate my issues when these emotions get in the way of my playing.

But dang, TUBESTER--wouldn't you then be higher-rated than your coach?

Haha.  Only in blitz, maybe!  OTB, my opponents usually psych me out with nasty stares.  :(

Yeah, beleve it or not, phsycology can be a very useful tool to a chess player... If he/she can use it correctly.

True.  If a person is excessively nervous about their opponent's rating, that can make a big difference in the game.  I've seen it happen a lot.

I'd love to win the lessons, but I never won anything in my life.  That's why I never venture to the casinos.

That's why you never won anything

Very true, a well trained (and practiced) player who knows a thing or two about mentalism and psychology can even pressure his opponent into doing things he would do normally. I do not approve of such actions in tournament play, as I think its sort of cheating, but it is fun to try with friends! :)

Please enter me, ljchess. I'm 22 years old and just started playing chess in august and am totally hooked. I've had some success on my own, but could really use a coach to improve to the next level; as I lack all formal instruction and own no chess books I'm sure there is plenty for a coach to iron out.

You do a right to be assertive at a a chessboard. For instance OTB I have had to tell spectators who got too close to beat it. But I do not advocate any kind of gamesman/womanship at all; the only way to enjoy winning is to leave it to the 64 squares.

primevaldad

awesome! I'd love to enter to win. I use chess to relax during work, but it's definitely more relaxing to have a plan.
I'm okay with calcuation, but I'd like to learn to develop positions more.
