Friends-What are they?

I recently received an invitation to be a friend of someone-can anyone tell me what that means? What happens if I accept? Are there privileges? What happens when you have “friends”?

Like everything, Chess.com is better with friends!

You get an alert when they make a new topic.

When you're playing in live chess, you can easily find if your friends are online, and send them a challenge.

Stuff like that. There's no risks, it just makes it easier to interact with each other. You might get a friend request just because a person liked one of your posts or games. You also might get friend requests from 1 day old accounts who are trolls, so I guess be cautious of that.

What is a new “topic”?

And by the way, what does it mean to “follow” someone? I am mighty confused here, besides I am a Chess.com nooby, so I am not sure of much stuff-by the way, you can send out challenges?!?!? Can I send one to you for instance?

The chess.com website has different features, one of them is the forum.

The forum contains topics.

The topics contain messages also called "posts."

The post you're reading right now is a message in the topic titled: "Friends-What are they?"
