Fritz 13 Engine Strength

Sort:
Aperture

Just wondering if there is a way to adjust the Fritz 13 engine strength.

I'm not talking about Friend Mode or Handicap And Fun, neither of which I like.

I'm talking about seting the engine on 1500 ELO, or 1700, or 2000, etc.

This is a breeze in Chessmaster and other FREE software and I just always assumed it would be simple to do this Fritz but I have yet to be able to find this adjustment. They seem to go out of their way to make everything difficult and as many steps as possible in that software.

Please help, Friz expets.

Thanks

Easy.  Training tab - Rated Game.  Opens a window with a slider to set Elo strength.

If you want more settings related to positional considerations you can set all kinds of things with Training tab - Handicap and Fun which opens a window where you can choose opponent types, set the Elo slider and also emphasize factors such as Mobility, King defense, Attack, Center Control, Pawn structure, etc.

I would suggest clicking on the menus under the Training tab and look over the options which are many and varied. or just RTFM.

Aperture

Traning tab - Rated game - has no such slider on program which is Fritz 13.

All I get is the Blitz Clock.

As to the Handicap and Fun I do have those options but the stuff you describe under "Rated game" is exactly what I'm looking for.

It's in my version which is build #20.  To prove it's there, open the Help menu with F1 and click the Index tab, then search for Rated Game and it will show you the Rated Game window with the Elo adjustment slider.

Aperture

I get what you have in the Help Menu-Index Tab-Rated Games but it is not what I get when I press "Rated Games".

What I get is this:

Aperture

So.......if I click "OK" on the "Blitz Clock" screen I will then enter the screen you're talking about.

Thanks

By the way......since we're talking about Fritz.
No need to start a new thread aobut this:

Is there a way to turn off those yellow arrows they have on every move the computer makes, I mean other than having to click somewhere on the board every time?

Aperture

Never mind. I found how to turn off that yellow line.

For anyone else looking it's File>Options>Game and uncheck "Mark Move With Arrow".

Thanks

Question Does Fritz 13 come with paper manual(Booklet) or just PDF.

Aperture

My version, Fritz 13, came with a PDF only -no booklet-, plus of course the help files -F1- that are a part of the program but that's pretty much the same thing as the PDF.

It seems to be impossible to reach ChessBase so don't expect any customer service from them. It's a good program with a good engine but wayyyyy to complicated with these silly menues and ribbon etc. etc.
They don't seem to understand that just becuse something works for Microsoft Word does not automatically mean it works for every software made.......including a chess program.

Threebeast

Thanks Aperture, my guess that all fritz 13 only come with a PDF manual.

Is Handicap and fun playing strength egal with rated game playing strength ?

I mean, if I set 1800 elo for Handicap and fun and 1800 elo for rated game would be any diference between them ? Is one stronger than the other ?

That's a good question; I have wondered the same thing. I don't actually know what the answer is, but I always assumed the primary difference is that handicap and fun gives you more options to decide what sorts of weaknesses to imbue into the engine's behavior, rather than just a general weakening from it's maximum strength. Also, rated games provide a wider range of ability.
