lol, i would hope you could beat the 900s.
Fritz 8 just beat me in 12 moves.

I see where you plan to be an expert in one year. Is this on chess.com, or OTB live face to face? If you reach USCF 2000 by Oct 2012, I will send you $100.00 bill! lolo
My feelings is just have fun with chess and do not set goals that are little too high, then you will not enjoy the game.
I gave up on becoming an expert. That goal was set back when I was addicted to chess. Now I just see it as a fun game I can always look forward too if there is nothing else to do. I'm focussing my time on getting many computer hardware certifications now.
At my current playing strength (class C), I win every game against every player I play against face to face. I don't go to thriving chess clubs, though. The strongest players I find face to face are about 1100. Most players I play without a queen.
In order to really get good, I'd have to study chess books like they are text books, and read several for each aspect of chess, like a college degree program. It is nice knowing that I'll never run out of books, but I see no point in putting in that much time when it won't make me any money. All it will do is force me to go online to find equal players.
The point of this thread, though, is that a super grandmaster can crush a class C player just as fast as as a class C player can crush an 800 player. Even knowing book is not enough, since Fritz knows which book moves are best. You can dedicate your life to chess and still lose every game to a computer.
Well, this last game I lasted over 40 moves, as White. It trapped my queen in the middle game, then forked the rest of my army one at a time, finishing me off with its two rooks and original queen against my lone king.

dont give up on your dreams you might not be a pc crusher but with proper work im sure u will be able to beat meny good humen players.

Wow, man. Fritz 8 really likes that Petroff defense, for one, but this reminds me of the time when I was playing with my Excalibur Squire and the entire game went like this:
1. d4 d5 2. c4 cxd4 3. e4 Nf6 4. Bxc4 Nxe4 5. Bd3 Qxd4 6. Ne2 Qxf2#
I was 13 at the time, but still, this was on the lowest setting.
The unleashed level is no joke. I used to take back moves after looking carefully when chess coach told me a move was bad. This game I just played the game out, and lost in 12. If I take back 4 moves per game, I last about 20 moves.
The unleashed level game me a new respect for the opening. From the first move I see threats and feel like I'm losing positional ground. Even when I play book opening moves, it says in the annotations that a different move would have been better. When it plays as white, it always starts with 1. e4, and replies to 1. .. e5 with 2. Nf3. If I reply with 2. ... Nc6, it says I made a mistake and should have played 2. ... Nf6.
But I still slam 900 rated players even if I start without a queen.
