There are ~1,327 openings and not all of them are equal. Some of them are just stupid, like the Grob or Barnes opening, and some have been used literal millions of times, like the Ruy Lopez or Sicillian. I've found that the bad openings have bad names. If you (like me) run into Mieses opening: Reversed Rat variation then you've messed up. And it's true. 1.d3 e5 2.Nd2 is just terrible. Maybe you ran into the King's pawn opening: Goldsmith, Picklepuss defence. Yup, Picklepuss defense. Or perhaps the Barnes opening: Hammerschlag Variation. They say that your favorite opening tells you about a person. Well, if your favorite opening is King's Pawn: Ware, Snagglepuss Variation then you are crazy. All of the aforementioned openings have come up in games of mine. A lot come from playing 1.e4 or 1.d4 against the Azeez bot, but they can come from anywhere. So, I'd love to hear about your obscure openings you've ran into with weird names or that are just really bad (preferably in a game).
