As with everything, chess must change with time.30 years ago, nobody could have predicted the influence of computers  in modern chess. We can only speculate on the future of this game.I think that 40-50 years from now, artificial intelligence would enable computers to make humanlike moves and truly understand chess. What do you guys think?

2018: En Passant rule gets abolished, the Great Fide wars ensue ...

2026: Houdini 6 gets released, the first engine which not only plays formidable Chess but also can cook a simple yet delicious three-course menu while massaging your feet

2030: The hidden testament of Bobby Fischer gets discovered. In it, the former World Champion unveils the secret plan of how to get rid of the space lizards who secretly govern the United States. One day later, it has dissapeared again, enshrouding Fischers legacy in even more mysteries.

2039: Pawn 01, the first chess-playing android goes in mass production. It has no emotions, sentiments or even a glimpse of humanity, but hey, it's solar-powered!

2060: Chess is finally solved! But lo, nobody's giving a s*** anymore because everybody is just hyped up by the new Holodecks which just got introduced, rendering the decade-long work of computer scientists useless.

I could've written more, but then my crystal ball went all blurry inside! Tongue Out

A career in chess will continue to decline. It's not like going to school for xYears and eventually getting a PhD. Making excellent money, having the most excellent life.

Children like present Masters, and GrandMaster will see that all the time wasted in studying chess is a gamble that doesn't reward dividends like the above mention. GrandMaster begging on the street for money to play in tournament. GM. equal to PhD. but no 6 figures or 5 figures or 4 figure or 3 figure salaries.

Chess is now and in the future will be a complete waste of time, because they will not look at it like football or basketball or baseball. Every American knows those sports pays crazy crazy huge salaries, and the young are smart enough to persue it.

Chess is and has become a poor man's sport.

For this reason I have resigned from the pursue of the game. As much as I love it, theirs simply no future in it. Unless you are among the top 10 in the world, there's no money. And chess books there's no money.

Well because once that book is published our kind, kool and most love people will buy the book, scan it for us, place it on the internet and that great master or grandmaster author will not see good revenues because of it.

Like how many rich masters and grandmaster are out there?? You probably can count them on 1 hand.

I feel sorry for grandmaster's that has dedicated long mad man hours in the lab, ( for many, many, years) to leave poor, or have (poker) change careers so late in the game.

Will I be SoonWorldChessChamp??

H_ll No!! A complete watse of investment. I'll continue to play, but no study- for what? I'm wise enough to know it's just a waste of time.

More profitable is going to college, watching a good movies, or simply sleeping.

Who said anything about living off of Chess? And who actually thinks it's a realistic option? A good 99% of Chess players know there's no money in it, and just play for the love of the game.

In a far away future, maybe.

Time to crack the old tournament joke :

Q : How can you tell a poor arbiter from a rich arbiter ?

A : The poor arbiter must drive his Porsche himself.

Soon enough you will be able to have a chess engine and database of games implanted into your brain. Then everyone will be cheating, but it won't be called cheating, it'll be called testing out your engine.

Hey want to test out your engine for a couple of games? I got mine at Montgomery Wards 2050, for $500 one world currency dollars. Oh you got yours at the Chess.com Super Store in downtown Moscow? Cool.
