Yes he can take the pawn. A check is a threat to take the king on the next move. If you eliminate the piece that gives this threat you will defend from the check
In the scenario below, my son is black and it's his move. Does the game allow for him to move the rook and take my pawn - or does being checked force him to move his king? Thank you in advance for any answers and taking it easy on a beginner ( :
