Gaping Holes in Chess Knowledge/Understanding

This game I played against a 1400 shows one of the ideas of chess improvement that many good chess instructors have - inconsistent results are a result of inconsistent knowledge for one's level.

This game really showed some type of position that I'm really weak at - which occurred as me playing the white side of the Blackmar Diemar. I've probably gotten away with this kind of thing since I never need to play down a pawn for uncertain (theoretical-based) compensation... but yeah:

This is how I got completely outplayed by a 1400, and only managed to pull the game back when it got out of blackmar territory, and into a standard rook endgame, where I didn't have such a huge gap in understanding, and could play decently, for my level.

urk
Yes, that was a Fail.
G4 and Bg2 is typical in some lines of the BDG and it's what you should have done since after 8. Qd2? Bb4 you're just down a pawn for less than nothing.
