lol, what a joke. Gary Johnson couldn't name a single world leader and never heard of Allepo but he plays chess... That's probably a picture of Bill Weld showing him that a game called chess exists...

 i have an inkling of suspicion that this was staged.  For example, i feel like they put those huge candles in front so no one can criticize (either the moves made, board set up, etc.)

let me rephrase that:

it was a president-elect photo op. It was staged.

Maybe as a test, someone could ask Gary to name just one USCF-rated player...

(OK, we'd even accept any Fide-rated player...)

I thought it a bit odd that the set wasn't even Staunton, although you could argue that they might have to use whatever set was lying around.

He probably should have spent the time learning about foreign affairs instead.

Yeah, despite all of the flak he's received, I actually respect him quite a bit.

"scandal free" speaks to the lack of media attention, not his character. They will make a scandal out of anything.

So Gary, who is your favourite foreign Grand-Master?

I'll easily take Johnson over the two major party candidates. BTW, he could name plenty of world leaders, he just couldn't think of any he admired. I had a hard time coming up with any myself, it took me several minutes to think of Aung San Suu Kyi and I still haven't come up with a second one.

Anyway, enough of politics. This is a chess site! ;-)
